UCI Mountain Bike World Cup also returns to Lenzerheide in 2023
The die is cast: Lenzerheide is also on the UCI race calendar in 2023 and the location of the world's highest mountain bike race series. The next UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Lenzerheide will be held from 9 to 11 June 2023. The programme traditionally includes Cross-Country Short Track (XCC) on Friday, Downhill (DHI) on Saturday and Cross-Country Olympic (XCO) on Sunday. After months of uncertainty, the joy over the acceptance is all the greater.
The relief is clearly noticeable among the organizers because when the recently held World Cup was dismantled, they did not know whether they would meet again in the same constellation and put on an event together. «The uncertainty was great for months, and we had to invest a lot to be able to secure this great event for next year in Lenzerheide,» says OC President Christoph Müller. «But now we are happy to be able to start planning for 2023 immediately together with our partners.»
What will change from 2023?
From 2023, the organization and promotion of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup will be taken over by Discovery Sports. This was announced by the UCI in February 2022. Discovery Sports is a corporate brand that includes (TV) channels such as Eurosport or media such as GCN and GMBN. «The new constellation brings with it a number of strategic and operational changes that should raise the quality of the World Cup events and the sport of mountain biking itself to a new level. We are excited to work with our new sparing partners and are convinced that we will benefit from the new orientation,» says Christoph Müller.
